Giulia & Gianfranco Masiero, Azienda Masiero
Father and daughter winemakers extraordinaire...Giulia and Franco Masiero. Azienda Masiero is situated in the Trinté hills between the Dolomites and Venetian plains, it's a region known for its steep natural amphitheater, rich limestone and volcanic soils, this unique place gives a voice to their wines that goes beyond what one might expect from the grape varieties they grow.
Originally Masiero began with Verdugo, a wine produced with their oldest merlot vines and in 2014 the family began to look towards recovering old neighbouring vineyards discovering parcels of Garganega, Tai red ( a indigenous variety to the trinté hills) and pinot grigio.
The revival of these parcels gave birth to "Moki" and "Lazaro", Moki is a skin contact pinot grigio pet- nat and Lazaro a 100 day long skin macareted garganega which undergoes a part of its maturation in a unique carrara marble container designed by Franco. Why marble? far from an ostentatious gesture, the calcium in the container naturally protects the maturing wine from free radicals such as oxidation.
With each vintage the Masiero family is moving closer to finding to showing the world the unique qualities in the terroir and grape varieties of the trinté, we have loved being a part of the journey with them and as franco would its been Super Fantastic!
