Bruno Rochard

Bruno Rochard, Domaine de Mirebeau

Loire

Bruno took over his father’s domaine 1998 and immediately made drastic changes to breathe new life into the vineyard. Working naturally and organically was the top priority for Bruno, as before he took over for his father the 30 hectares domaine consisted of 6 hectares of farmed vines. Bruno worked tirelessly for years to convert the vineyard and his work paid off. By 2006 he’d successfully converted the entire vineyard to completely organic production, and then became certified organic in 2009.

About the Domaine

In the Loire Valley, Domaine de Mirebeau is situated just miles from the emblematic village of the Anjou, Rablay sur Layon. The vines consist of 50% Chenin Blanc, 27% Cabernet Franc and 33% Grolleau. The latter of which Bruno champions as the perfect grape for this particular terroir, given the soil composition of clay and pebbles which aides in preventing any dramatic temperature variation. Happy vines, happy WINES!

Additionally, in an effort to maintain highest quality control, Bruno gradually and methodically reduced the size of his domaine by roughly one-third of its original size. Why? Well, because that's the size Bruno feels is realistically manageable for one person (himself) to handle without sacrificing quality. Bruno is literally the most hands-on winemaker you’ll ever meet, and the most generous. And you will find that his hard work and great care is profoundly evident in every bottle of wine he makes.
